Pine City Junior Senior High School
2014-2015 School Year
Study Hall Rules and Procedures
Overview:
This study hall will provide an opportunity for each student to prepare, organize, plan and complete assignments for their classes. Academic progress will be reviewed weekly. It is not a social hour. If you have nothing to do, you may read. Students not making academic progress based on their grades and assignment completions will face additional restrictions in this study hall. If you or your parents would like to discuss any questions or concerns, please either see me before or after school, send me an email, or call me. I will do my best to return all calls and emails within 24 hours. I take a genuine interest in all of my students and would also love to talk about any special events or triumphs you or your parents wish to share with me.
Materials:
Please come to class with all your materials, including a book. I will keep extra supplies in the classroom. If you need a piece of paper or a writing utensil, please come get one. There is no need to discuss this with anyone else.
*No gum*
*You may have water bottles in class. I expect you to clean up after yourself and to be respectful of those around you.
Tardies and Absences:
You will be marked “tardy” if you are not in your seat, ready to begin work, when the bell has finished ringing. Three tardies over the course of a semester will be equivalent to one absence. No passes will be given during the first and last ten minutes of class, so please use the restroom and gather all of your materials during your passing time. If you need a pass to see another teacher or to the media center, you will need to procure your pass before study hall begins.
CONSEQUENCES:
1. Verbal warning 2. Individual conference 3. Loss of privileges 4. Parent contact 5. Detention
PASSES:
1. You must bring a pass from the teacher to go to his/her room (including band).
2. A limited number of media/computer lab passes will be given.
*You must return to study hall for the last five minutes of the hour.*
3. Bathroom passes given as needed.
4. LOCKER PASSES issued at teacher's discretion.
5. You must go directly to the destination on your pass.
Electronic Devices:
All cell phones, laser pointers, pagers, beepers, mp3 players, CD players, iPods, handheld games, radios, cameras, TVs, laptops, etc. should be turned off and put away during class. Unless otherwise instructed, school-issued iPads must be face down on your desk or the floor. School issued iPads may be used for school purposes ONLY. If I see or hear any of the above, I will confiscate the item and you may pick it up at the end of the day. The second time, a parent must pick up the item. The third time, the item will be confiscated until the end of the term. However, during work time, permission may be granted to listen to music devices. This is a privilege, not a right, so please be sure you are listening to music, not watching videos, etc. Furthermore, if I can hear your music through your headphones, it is too loud and you will be asked to turn it down. You may not share music devices with other students. Failure to comply with these policies will result in a loss of music privileges for the whole class.
